A sense of ikigai — roughly, "a reason for being" — is what this check measures, across three themes: how you feel about your life, your attitude towards the future, and the sense that your existence matters. A 7-year study of 43,391 Japanese adults found those with no sense of ikigai had a 50% higher risk of death (Sone et al., Psychosomatic Medicine, 2008).
Measured here using the Ikigai-9, a validated Japanese scale (Imai, Osada & Nishimura, 2012) — one of several strands of evidence connecting a sense of purpose to healthy ageing.
Thinking about your life right now — there are no right or wrong answers.
Illustrative bands based on the scale's 9–45 range, not official clinical cutoffs.
This is a wellness reflection tool based on a published research questionnaire, not a mental health diagnosis. If you're feeling persistently low, hopeless, or unmotivated, please reach out to your doctor or a counsellor — support helps.
